The Death of Captain America

Last year I resumed my hobby of Comic Book collecting. Marvel successfully lured me back after a 15 year hiatus with it's Civil War mini-series. I've since gone on to read many other new titles like Planet Hulk and Bullet Points (two of my favorites). And of course the first title I bought in 2006 was Captain America. My all-time favorite hero is Captain America. I probably have over 200 of his books dating back to the 1960's. On March 19th, 2007, Captain America #25 changed everything: "On his way to an arraignment at the Federal Courthouse in New York City, Captain America was shot in the right shoulder by a sniper's bullet. Several subsequent shots were fired point blank at Rogers by Sharon Carter. Captain America was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital." Captain America is dead. I won't go into the why's or what if's of Marvels decision to kill a high profile, classic character like this. Instead with this post I would like to pay my respects to the character and the ideals he represented. Strangely I'm not angry with Marvel. At this point I trust the writers to be doing something siginificant instead of just using it as a cheap publicity stunt. In any case, Long Live Captain America! And Marvel, don't disappoint me!
