Quirl Burt Myers

I got the news that this past week one of my mentors had passed away. This painting is one his that hangs in my home. I have two of his paintings that he gave me and I will always cherish them. Each day I pass by them and observe his brush work and marvel at his talent. I am grateful to have these paintings to study. His style has had a great influence on my artistic sensibilities. Burt was a private man and a very deep and thoughtful artist. I grew up with him and he was a grandpa figure in my life. I can't put into words all the things that he meant to me as an individual and as an artist but, suffice it to say, I will miss him. I quote a favorite hymn of mine and Burt's by W. W. Phelps "There is no end to glory; There is no end to love; There is no end to being; There is no death above. There is no end to glory; There is no end to love; There is no end to being; There is no death above." Burt, until we meet again - Patrick.

Quirl was also my mentor and teacher. I graduated from Chaffey in 1981. I am an art director by profession and I paint in my spare time. Quirl taught me that I have to have my two arts, the one I make a living with and the one I do for myself.
I was looking for him for years and then found him or should I say I found his obituary, the day after he died. I miss him terribly and I am sad that I couldn't tell him how much he influenced my life.
